Ugh. Heartbreaking to think I used to vigorously defend this belief. The fact it happens so much but goes unreported, only feeds the delusion that this doesn't happen anymore and "blood is bad for you".

Evolution Gap - Where's the Fur?
by shadow inevolution paints human ancestors covered with fur.
fur has several benefits as stated by britannica "the pelts of fur-bearing animals are called true furs when they consist of two elements: a dense undercoat, called ground hair, and longer hairs, extending beyond that layer, called guard hair.
the principal function of ground hair is to maintain the animal’s body temperature; that of guard hair is to protect the underlying fur and skin and to shed rain or snow.".

Jacob, I'm new to this to a certain extent, but consider that the mating ball of snakes is most likely not actually 10k, simply because it could possibly be picked up by 10k snakes. In addition, this mating ritual continues with all female snakes of the breed. So it isn't a a matter of best snake gets the girl.....natural selection wins! It's a slow moving process over many many breeding cycles.
Regarding fur/hair, I'm actually most interested why we retain any. In particular as I approach my late 30's, why does it want to disappear from my head, and make its way to my earlobe?

SBF,
I don't think the intent is to denigrate the clear heroic defiance as you put it by many individuals. The reason....is almost immaterial in my mind. I think the issue is that the perception, and of course the narrative coming from the branch is that as a group JW's were this massive united affront that nobody could quite understand because they could just walk out of there if they signed a piece of paper.
that is certainly what i once believed.

Lying In Wait At a Bed & Breakfast
by Cold Steel ina few years ago while traveling in the northeast, my wife and i stopped in new haven, connecticut, at a b&b we'd reserved for the night.
no sooner had we unpacked and moved into the living room for tea and treats, our hosts began to talk about religion, and we learned they were jehovah's witnesses.
i didn't mind so much, but my wife was outraged that our hosts would use their place of business as a launching point to do missionary work.

Cold steel,
This seems like the easiest thing in the world to fix. Let me Demonstrate.
"Oh you are Jehovahs Witnesse? I used to be too, until I learned about the...

BUT......I certainly would not want to affect your faith negatively, so its probably best to leave your religion off the topic of conversation list. Hey! These doilies are amazing? Where did you get them?"

Ugh.
Lets be real. Conventions are boring. these guys lives are boring. this is their little "treat" to do something exciting for them.
This guy with the amplifier succeeded in doing the opposite that he probably wished to. He fed into their persecution complex perfectly. Well done moron.

Hey Scruff. Welcome to the board. It can be hard to find people that 100% understand how your world view as a JW at one time continues to affect you, and shape the rest of your life once you are free. It can really be nice to have that in common with others.
I can't wait to hear your story. So you left when you were 17. Yikes!

Orphan crow nailed it with what ypu are looking for. It's Canada specific. Not even sure if the HTC peeps in the US even know about it. Probably not.
Blood was the first thing to fall for me as well. The implications of being wrong there, the arguments and mental gymnastics needed to try to justify it, and the dishonest notion of how it has evolved.....put me on my heels and woke me up. The single most indefensible major doctrine in my opinion.

Got my JC cancelled... (at least for now)
by Sanchy inso my wife and i have been in the process of fading for a few months now as per my original post here.
about a week ago, i was browsing some ex-jw facebook groups when i saw a post that linked to the crisis of conscience book.
i said "f@(k it" and hit share on it.. a few hours later, i get a long text letter from my mom (who was a fb friend of mine) telling me the typical "good luck finding friends in the world" and how we have "nothing in common anymore"; basically, it was a 'farewell' text.

I think you kind of knew what you were doing to be honest. Maybe subconsciously ripping off the band aid? Resist the urge for confrontation. It goes away. Their influence goes away. Say it was a mistake. You can go on FB and actually delete that post. So go do it. Tell them you "fixed" the mistake.
Finally don't get caught actually telling them how you feel. Just say you wouldn't want to risk harming their faith, and your decisions have been principled. Then leave. Let the silence linger on them.....not you. You are in control of this.
Oh......and record it!

Why the story of Noah's ark is scientifically impossible: Minimum Viable Population
by ILoveTTATT2 ini didn't know this but there is a way to calculate the minimum population required for a certain species to survive over the next 100 to 1000 years.
this is called the "minimum viable population".. genesis states that 2 (or 7) of each "kind" went into the ark.
supposing that each "kind" means each "species", and they all could fit in the ark, and they came out safely, most of the species would have died, because it is impossible to survive, long-term, with a starting population of 2.this is interesting:"an mvp of 500 to 1,000 has often been given as an average for terrestrial vertebrates when inbreeding or genetic variability is ignored.

In the face of even the most basic arguments regarding Noahs ark, the elders that fancy themselves smart will give the most incredible answers for these things. Go ahead......ask......it's a riot.
In the end however, you have to accept that not only did God do all of these things outside of the realm of his natural laws for the sake of tjis lesson, but also that he drowned millions of people/families, and animals to hit the reset button, using the same corrupted genetic material. After all that, he his evidence of it.....just hid it. Even though he doesn't even mention dinosaurs, but he left all sorts of evidence of those.
I'll say it again......I can't believe I used to believe this stuff!
